Annapurna North Base Camp, also called Annapurna I Base Camp, lies at the foot of the world’s 10th highest mountain, Annapurna I (8,091 m). Unlike the popular South ABC trek, the North Base Camp is remote and rarely visited, offering a raw and wild Himalayan experience. The trail passes through rugged valleys, dense forests, and traditional villages before opening up to barren alpine landscapes. Because it is less commercialized, the region still holds a sense of mystery and adventure for trekkers seeking something off the beaten path.
HIghlights:

Annapurna North Base Camp, also known as the Annapurna I Base Camp, lies on the northern side of Annapurna I (8,091 m), the first 8,000-meter peak ever climbed in history. Located in the Myagdi district of western Nepal, the camp sits at an altitude of about 4,190 meters. Compared to the famous South Annapurna Base Camp, the North Base Camp is far less visited, giving it an untouched and wild atmosphere.
The trek usually starts from Beni or Tatopani, following the Kali Gandaki Valley before turning towards the Myagdi Khola. The route passes through remote villages, terraced farmlands, rhododendron and oak forests, and then enters rugged alpine terrain. Since the trail is not commercialized, trekkers encounter few tea houses and often need camping support, making the journey more adventurous and demanding.
Reaching the base camp rewards trekkers with close-up views of Annapurna I’s north face, along with stunning panoramas of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, and Machhapuchhre. The landscapes here are more dramatic and harsher compared to the lush scenery of the south approach.

The Annapurna North Base Camp trek is ideal for those who want to explore a historic and wild side of the Annapurna Himalaya, away from crowds, with a true sense of expedition-style trekking.
