Overview

The Mount Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, located in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. Considered one of the holiest journeys in the world, it holds immense spiritual significance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of the Bon religion. Mount Kailash is revered as the spiritual axis of the universe, while Lake Mansarovar is believed to cleanse sins and grant spiritual purification.

Pilgrims undertake the challenging 52-km parikrama (circumambulation) of Mount Kailash and perform rituals such as bathing and meditating at Lake Mansarovar. The journey involves traversing rugged terrains, enduring high altitudes, and embracing extreme weather conditions. Despite its physical demands, the Yatra is a profound spiritual experience, offering breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and serene landscapes. It typically lasts 10-15 days and is best undertaken between May and September.
